Australia reduces 80% Consumption of plastic bags
Nature accuses the use of this substance without a brain in products that have a short production life, but polluted life is high.
To solve this problem, one pillar will be policy changes to promote
friendly measures. One of the leading countries was Australia, where the
two largest supermarket chains banned the use of plastic bags,
resulting in a reduction of 80% of the total bag consumption on the
island.
In the beginning, it was difficult: Woolworth, one chain
concerned, blamed the drop in sales, and Close, the other company
involved, took action, for example, in Barcelona: a small sum of money
paid for the bags.
But a few months later, the National Association of Retailers of Australia reported that the ban on the use of plastic bags had successful. This organization estimates that in this period, they stopped about 1,500 million bags.
In October,
Europe voted to ban the full use of plastics once by 2021, although the
Member States still have to pass the law. Woolworth and Close have shown
that these small changes can mean a lot to the planet.
