The Price Of A Pregnant Woman In Spain
This weekend I heard a conversation in a rather curious bar in which a woman said they deserved employment discrimination, because pregnant women had a lot of money and they caught the leave before needing it as if a doctor did not have to certify this, and that was very expensive for the entrepreneur. I shocked, so I gave accounts about the price of a pregnant woman for the employer in the worst case.
In this article we will calculate the cost of Rococo pregnancy, a truck driver with a temporary contract, with a superb agreement, a high-risk pregnancy from month 3 and replaced by Elvira with a transfer of knowledge 15 days before the low of Rocco. Besides this, Rocco earns just the average Spanish salary, well above the median salary and well above the average salary of a woman in Spain.
We go to different amounts. Maternity leave after delivery: €0. The company has to pay social security for 4 months but it would pay the substitute employee’s bonus. Maternity leave before childbirth (Common disease): € 7,833
It depends a lot on the agreement you have if there is a high-risk pregnancy and the work you have. I have not had real statistical data. We will put a terrible case in which the woman is low after 3 months of pregnancy, which is not far by far the most common, and that her agreement will pay 100% of the loss. (The first month is €1786.9 and the other 5 are € 1,209.22 per month).
Low for breastfeeding: € 1,326.68. Lactation is equivalent to 15 days of an employee’s vacation. Search for a substitute: €663.34.
There is no / I find statistics of this, my guess is that finding an employee costs 1 week of work and paperwork to HR, which charges an average salary in Spain. The data is exaggerated and taken from my work experience and an acquaintance who works as HR if someone has aim data that shows that a contract costs more time than that that provides them. Training and transfer of knowledge: € 1,326.68.
We hire the employee who will replace with 15 days of margin for a small training and transfer of knowledge.
Total: € 11,149 per pregnancy in the worst case (high-risk pregnancy, high-risk profession, a great agreement, and temporary employee). Cost over a woman’s entire working life: € 14,939. Here we include the 1.34 children that the average woman in Spain has in 35 years of working life for full retirement.
Conclusions: 35 years of working life of a healthy woman cost: 31,840.48 * 35 = 1,114,439 €, pregnancy in the worst case (all pregnancies risk, and not 10%) means something over 1.34% of the salary of a woman.
The main dependence is the pr-pregnancy leave in certified cases for medical reasons, the cost of the rest of things does not exceed € 4,000 in the entire working life of the woman for the employer. A woman earns an average of 12% less in positions similar to a man. If a woman wins 31,840.48, a man would win € 35,661.33, which makes € 1,248,146 in 35 years.
1,248,146 - 1,114,439 = € 133.707.
A man who does not have children costs 133 thousand euros more expensive than a woman with children throughout his working life. Surely there are several errors in the accounts or concept, please, do not hesitate to correct any inconsistency in the data.
Data: Average salary Spanish 2015: 23.106,30 (Men 25,992.76, Women 20,051.58). I used the mixed average value. Spanish median salary 2015: 19,466.49. I use the average value since it is higher.
The percentage paid by the company in contributions to the SS: It goes from 30.9% (Indefinite office) to 37.8 %% (High risk temporary). I use the maximum value. “Truck and a temporary woman”.
SS cost for the company: 8734.18 per year, 727.84 per month.
Total annual company cost: 31,840.48
Total monthly company cost with prorates: 2,653.40
Total company cost for a fortnight with pro-rate: € 1,326.68
Children per woman: 1.34
Pregnancy percentage high risk: 10% (value not used)
Low due to common disease (before delivery):
The first 3 days of the withdrawal is NOT charged at all.
From 4 to 15 60% of the regulatory base is collected. (COMPANY)
From day 16 to 20, 60% of the regulatory base. (INSS)
And from day 21 is perceived 75% of the regulatory base by IT. (INSS) We are going to assume the worst case, in which the agreement obliges the company to pay a full salary.
The cost of the first month would be: Quote plus 15 days of full salary plus 40% of 5 days plus 25% of 10 days: 727.84 (SS) + 962.76 € 15 days + 42.8 (5 days 40%) + 53.5 (10 days 25%) = 1786.9 €
The cost of the following months would be: Quote plus one month of 25% of salary = 727.84 (SS) + 25% = 481.38 = 1,209.22 €
Maternity leave (after childbirth): 4 months The new person hired in that temporary contract for substitution of maternity leave will be bonded 100% in terms of social security payment.
Breastfeeding: 15 full days paid as vacation (same as wedding and others)
Wage gap: Men and women do not charge the same when they perform similar tasks in Spain. They earn 12.7% less per hour, according to a study by Fedea that has statistically cleaned the gross salary data
